Lovett Director of Athletics Steve Franks has named Riikka Lehtonen as varsity girls basketball coach. A Middle School Physical Education Instructor, Lehtonen served as an assistant with the Lions varsity program this past season, and is head throws coach with both boys and girls track teams.
Lehtonen grew up as a basketball player in Finalnd, coming through the ranks of that country's national team programs. She was a collegiate player at Kilgore College in Texas, finishing her collegiate career at Eastern New Mexico State University. Lehtonen played two years professionally in Germany. She holds a Masters in Education from Georgia State University. She was an assistant coach at the collegiate level at Midland Lutheran University, and coached locally at Roswell High School.
