Haley Tucker '15 collaborated with FOCUS, an organization that works with children and adults with special needs, to plan a prom for 50 of their clients. With the help of 50 Lovett volunteers, the big event was held at Lovett in April 2015. It was a huge success!
Haley described her project:
I envisioned a “007” themed gala for the FOCUS teens and young adults. I was hoping to serve others while allowing my morals to expand. I hoped to learn about myself during the process, and give them a night to remember! I also hoped that if not anything else, I would learn how to turn something in on time, work with people, and plan accordingly in a work atmosphere.
When everyone was thanking me afterwards, I realized that my project was a success. It reached people in a way I didn't think would happen. For the kids, they got a night to be normal and not worry about doctors. They got to hang around other kids their age. For the volunteers, they had an awesome time and got to see how great it feels to put someone else in front of you.
Because of the success of the event, the Upper School Vestry will take on hosting the FOCUS prom as a yearly event at Lovett.
