Interested in hiking? Orchid research? Spanish? Sustainability? How about daydreaming in a hammock? Then you should be interested in visting Siempre Verde, an 825-acre preserve and research center in the Ecuadoran cloudforest.
The Siempre Verde research station features sleeping and dining accommodations for 28 people and a large laboratory. The facility is available for use by all schools, public and independent, as well as college and university groups. A typical visit to Siempre Verde might include hiking on area trails, day trips to nearby villages, lectures by regional experts, study of the local culture and language, and volunteering with children at Escuela Rio Cenepa.
Specialized school trips include the CARE Future Leaders Program, and trips focused on sustainability and community conservation, Spanish immersion, middle-school aged travelers, and more. Researchers from universities and botanical gardens also return each year, using Siempre Verde as their home base while researching the area's orchids, bats, and other flora and fauna.
