Siempre Verde
The
Siempre Verde Endowment Fund
The Ecuadorian government has declared Siempre Verde a
protected forest, ensuring that Lovett’s property will be
held in perpetuity. Now,
through the generosity of a challenge grant offered by Dorothy
C. Fuqua, the Lovett community has the opportunity to ensure
that this cloudforest classroom will have a dedicated funding
source, as well.
Mrs.
Dorothy C. Fuqua challenged the Lovett community to raise
$250,000 in order to establish The Siempre Verde Endowment
Fund. All gifts made to
the Fund through
December 31, 2005, were matched dollar for dollar
by Mrs. Fuqua.

Student
Challenge Grant
A
student challenge grant
offered
additional money if Lovett students
could raise a
certain amount themselves. Former students Paul Merz and David Pulliam
led that effort, with endeavors as diverse as working the
concession stand at athletic events and selling shade-grown
coffee from the farms near Siempre Verde. A December 28, 2004,
article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution chronicled
these
student efforts; click
